Lock Cyclinders

Pins: These are small metal pieces within the cylinder that align when the correct key is inserted. When aligned, they allow the cylinder to turn, unlocking the lock. Springs: Springs push the pins downward, preventing the lock from turning unless the correct key is used. Keyway: The keyway is the groove or slot in the cylinder where the key is inserted. It aligns with the pins and allows the key to turn the cylinder. Driver Pins and Key Pins: These are types of pins found in pin tumbler lock cylinders. The key pins are the ones that touch the key, while the driver pins sit above them. When the correct key is inserted, the driver pins align with the key pins, allowing the cylinder to turn. Cylinder Housing: This is the outer casing that encloses the pins, springs, and other components. It is installed within the lock mechanism. Cam or Tailpiece: This is the part of the lock that interacts with the lock mechanism itself. It's typically on the backside of the cylinder and is turned by the key.
